In a large bowl, beat 1 cup brown sugar and 3/4 cup butter until light and fluffy. Add vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon maple extract, and egg. Blend well. Stir in flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well. Stir in dates and chopped pecans. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place dough 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 9 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown. Transfer cookies to a rack to cool. In a small bowl combine the confectioners sugar, milk, 3 tablespoons butter, and 3/4 teaspoon maple extract to make a frosting. Spread the frosting on the cooled cookies and top each cookie with a pecan half.
